singapore / thailand

a merry christmas indeed. celebrating with pete and corinne in singapore.

decorations on orchard road. its business as usual on christmas day with over 250 shopping malls...open.

block of flats.

museum of shanghai toys, in little india, singapore(?). an impressive collection of chinese toys from as early as 1910. it features mostly tin toys...

...and a few old comic books.

2 gruesome scenes from the '10 courts of hell' display. these depict life after death in ancient chinese mythology. located in haw par villa - which was constructed by aw boon haw, creator of tiger balm.

in the fifth court...if the crime was cruelty to animals or freinds...the punishment would be for your heart to be torn out, or to be thrown on protruding spikes.

drinks in bangkok with our london friend, carla!

waterfall fun on the island of koh samui.

young elephant, sadly...chained to the spot.

a big thank you goes out to mr. & mrs. said, and pete & corinne for our luxurious accommodation on koh samui.

last dinner of 2008. yummy thai.

2009!
khoom fay...traditional thai hot air lanterns. ours weren't that successfull...getting blown straight into the trees.

pete is the first person in the world to jump 4 (balanced) bottles of chang in 2009.

one of many caged monkeys at the 'monkey theatre' on koh samui. trained monkeys do flips, push-ups, play guitar etc...poor monkeys.

our huts on 'bottle beach', ko pha-ngan. only after hiking 3.5 hours through jungle (0.5 hours in the dark) in flip-flops with our rucksacks did we find out its accessible by car.

a little further south east from bottle beach, we stayed at thong nai pan yai and finally got some sun.

happy locals on thong nai pan noi.

nice and new bangkok airport. stay tuned for india - the north.
