putting along the many canals lined with palm trees and rice patties (which are about 1m below sea level) . our one bedroom boat or 'kettuvallam' is like a very large canoe, with a wood hull and thatched roof.

lovely varkala beach, enclosed by red cliffs, with great seafood to be had in the restaurants perched up top.

along the seafront promenade of the former french colony, pondicherry.
We also visited auroville which is just outside pondicherry. started in the 60's, auroville is to be an 'ideal township devoted to an experiment in human unity'. Its population of about 2000, made up of people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds (representing humanity as a whole) from 35 nations. hmmmm...interesting (and weird).
